No drink and bad coffee.
My monk like life has been progressing well, I have been almost a week with out any booze, not even a sly cocktail or a fortifying brandy. This has had two major effects, I don't fear the morning so much and I have been having a wide array of interesting dreams. I should point out that it's not that I enjoy the mornings, just that I fear them a little less.
I went to a lunch meeting yesterday and it was a bit of a trial. I went with a girl I work with which was probably the first mistake, then we met another girl who was married. And I didn't even order a drink. I had a very poor coffee, just one as the awful waitress took ages to bring another. Why anyone would want to go to one of those chain-pubs for lunch when the delights of Soho, especially the beautiful French pastry house, was but a street away. It was like being at a party stuck talking to some dull person when someone fascinating was saying something interesting and amusing across the room.
I have learnt from this that I shall not be allowing this girl to choose the venue for any future meetings.
My assistant is being rather poor today, some days he seems very good but other days it is like pulling teeth to get him to do anything, still I am sure, or at least I hope with time we can craft him into a suitable chap. He does have some excellent jumpers which is a positive sign at least.
